Their often flirtatious relationship was intensified when Julian started working closely with Alex on a script which Alex wrote. Their working relationship was often complicated by Alex's behavior around him, such as undressing for him to prove the realism of a scene she wrote, and it affected Brooke greatly who refused to trust Alex around her boyfriend.

However, when the script was finished Alex worried that she would lose contact with Julian and sought ways to stay in his life. Julian confronted her and told her that he didn't love her, he didn't even like her leading a devastated Alex to try and kill herself.
